New York’s Nutcracker – Christmas time in NYC

New York’s Christmas Ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ continues to attract thousands of people for its annual performance at the majestic theatre of Lincoln Center. The matinee performances are just as popular and tickets sell quickly. These have a value ranging from 29 to 220 dollars depending on the day and the seat. This year the show begins today, November 29th, and will run until January 4th , 2014 .

The popular melodies of Tchaikovsky will transport you to a magical world where evil rats besiege a battalion of toy soldiers, and a blizzard on stage will lead the characters to an enchanted city. Many people every year flock also to witness for a second or third time this annual ballet, which is a sublime blend of music and dance.

Its 90 dancers, 60 musicians, 32 engineers and two casts of 50 young students from the School of American Ballet join forces to make every performance as magical as possible. This year is George Balanchine’s choreography. The elements of the set design and elaborate lighting effects surprise give free rein to the imagination of the viewer. The most famous example of these extraordinary stage effects is the one-tone Christmas tree that grows from a height of 3 feet to 12 feet , which makes fills the theater with gasps of wonder at each representation.
